Education

Angel Chinn has been teaching dance for more than 15 years and has spent the last seven years as a certified dance instructor for New York City public schools. During her time with NYCPS, Angel created Dance Xplosion, an annual concert that showcased and connected dancers from the community, directed NonaLee Dance Theatre Summer Intensive for youth, ages 6 – 18 in collaboration with Brooklyn School for Music & Theater, and developed a sequential high school dance curriculum which met requirements for the New York State Regents diploma in Dance.  Angel has taught all ages from toddlers through adults in a variety of dance genres including ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, and repertory. Within those genres, students also explore improvisation and compositional  tools because while fostering technical skill is very important, encouraging the exploration of self through independent, creative thinking, and authentic movement is equally valuable. Arts in education are not just tools for learning, but also for expression and healing, aiding in increased self awareness and awareness for others, stimulating imagination, and creating possibilities.

Through dance education, Angel strives to build reciprocal communities with students that are technically proficient, creatively wise, and gracefully resilient.
